If you consider yourself a healthy food lover, or food in general, especially desserts, then you’ll love today’s recipe.
More than a month ago, we made energy bars (check out the recipe here). Since we loved them very much, we decided to try and test different ingredients while remaining in the domain of healthy food. Couple of recipes later, we managed to make perfect healthy balls. Though they look like Raffaello or rum balls, which are Sandra’s Christmas specialty by the way, all of the ingredients are good for you. When it comes to sweet, chocolate is first thing that pops in to our minds, and because of that we’ve used raw cocoa.
A lot of people think that it’s not good for health, but they don’t know that it’s actually a superfood. Raw cocoa is filled with antioxidants, which are great for prevention of cancer growth, heart diseases and ageing. Also, aminoacids from raw cocoa improve quality of sleep and body recovery after physical activities. So, not only we will acomplish a chocolate taste with raw cocoa, we will also do good for our body. Being that this cocoa is not sweet, we decided to put dates. Dates are not only rich in great taste, they are also rich in minerals and vitamins, like B1, B5, calcium, magnesium, iron and folic acid which is especially good for pregnant women. If your dates are dry, put them in hot water for few minutes to soften them up.
Along with cocoa and dates, we also put nuts (almond, hazelnut and walnut) and maca powder. According to legends, maca is a plant that Inca warriors used to boost their power and spirit. This super plant grown in Peru balances hormones and has great effects on immune system(it is not recommended pregnant women and the ones nursing). If you don’t have or you not supposed to use maca powder, you can leave it out of the recipe, balls will be equally delicious.
Put all the ingredients in a blender with one spoon of water, shape the balls and if you want, you can roll them in coconut flakes. Leave them in a fridge for about an hour and they are ready to be enjoyed! They can be in the fridge for up to two weeks(if you even manage to not eat them all by then, haha).
