We know, we know, Valentine’s Day  is over, gifts and tenderness have been exchanged, and why would we now bring you a recipe for pink heart shaped cookies, you ask? Well, we think that when you love somebody, you should show and celebrate that love daily, and what better way to do it than with cookies? But on the other way, do we really need a reason to bake cookies? Of course not, but just in case, this cookies have an alibi because they are heart shaped. We decided to make simple crisp cookies, that you only need 4 ingredients to make. We cut them out in heart shapes and made great icing without eggs. If you don’t want heart shaped cookies, you can mold them in any shape you please. They are delicious, and can last longer because they don’t have eggs in them. Enjoy!

All you need:

COOKIES

300g flour

200g margarine

50g powdered sugar

2 teaspoons of vanilla sugar

ICING

150g powdered sugar

milk and edible red food color

Recipe for cookies is pretty simple. Put the flour, margarine, powdered and vanilla sugar in a bowl and start kneading. It may take some time until margarine warms up. When you form a ball out of dough, it’s done. Put the dough in the fridge for 20 minutes. Heat the oven on 180°C and prepare a baking sheet with greasy paper. Thinly roll out the dough, and use molds to cut out the heart shapes. Bake them for around 10 minutes, but it’s best if you start checking them after 5, to make sure they don’t burn. When they’re done, wait till the cookies cool off to apply the glaze.

Although the royal icing is usually made with egg whites, we like the egg free version better. This icing is simple, and easy to work with. Put 150g of powdered sugar and  some milk in the bowl and stir. Add more milk if the icing is too thick, it has to be dense like a paste.  Add edible color near the end, fill the piping bag and be creative!
