If you’re a fan of romantic comedies, then the ones from the 90’s with Meg Ryan are surely on top of your list. Honestly, I can still remember how our mom used to make us popcorn before Sleepless in Seattle or You’ve got mail. I can still smell the popcorn, too. I can also say with complete certainty that movies with Meg Ryan have marked my childhood. Kate & Leopold was on TV the other day and I started thinking how we always loved Meg’s style, not just in that one, but in all of her movies. Minimal, classic with simple lines, with not a lot of details, even a little tom boy-ish. I would say that even today, Meg’s style is definitely trendy. Then is started thinking how it’s been awhile since we did a Dress like… post. You can guess where I’m going with this, right? Yes, I will try to make dress like Meg Ryan with today’s pieces that you can find in every store. I think it will be pretty simple because like I said, Meg is trendy even today.
Kate and Leopold
This movie is from 2001, and starring along with Meg is super handsome Hugh Jackman. Plot of the movie is based in New York where duke Leopold arrives using time travel. Yes, you’ve read that right, time travel. But, don’t give up, I swear, the movie is great! Intelligent and handsome duke Leopold meets Kate who he immediatelly takes liking to. During the movie, Kate has some really great outfits, and I singled out the one that catched my eye the most. It’s about a long black coat, sunglasses, simple bag, boots, black pants and a mandarin collar shirt.
You’ve Got Mail
Meg and Tom are amazing in this movie. Meg plays Kathleen Kelly, owner of a small bookstore who lives with her boyfriend and their relationships fell into a rut. Kathleen then starts chatting via email with a stranger, and she slowly starts falling in love with him. Meg also stays true to her style in this movie. Minimal, with lots of neutral colors and with lots of dresses as well. Because of that I decided for a combination in which a dress has a starring role. An all black combination is beautifully contrasted by a brown dress with simple lines that looks amazing on Meg.
I watched this fun romantic comedy a million times. Co starring with Meg is Kevin Kline. In short, Meg’s fiance has left her and she travels to France to win him back. On a plane, she meets a Frenchman who is a small time smuggler. Meg (unlike her movie fiance) is faithful to her style, but adds a small dose of french chic to it. There are a couple of scenes in the movie where Meg wears a stripped shirt, white trainers and white pants. Since this classic combination look great todays as it is back then, it was an obvious choice.
