Is Ayurveda the Answer to Your Skin Woes?

by

How many of you have ever purchased a product just because of it’s packaging?  Hey, I’m not here to judge! I’ve always been the person that neverrr looked at ingredient labels, and words “natural” and “effective” would be enough for me to buy the product. Today, as the beauty industry is getting larger and larger, so is the list of harmful and toxic ingredients, so being an informed consumer and therefore being aware of what you are putting on your skin (our largest organ), is more important than ever. The road to healthier skin starts with us. The choice is no one else’s, it’s ours, right?  For that reason, packaging is a totally unimportant thing; what we are interested in is what is inside. Sometimes it’s best to return to nature and enjoy the best it has to offer. Natural ingredients with high levels of vitamins, moisturizers and antioxidants, no parabens, dyes, benzoyl peroxide … THIS is what makes the perfect product, the PRODUCT we want to use! In other words, natural products are BETTER for you and they WORK!

I recently watched a documentary on the secrets of beauty and health of women from India, and one word was often mentioned – Ayurveda. Sherlock in me decided to investigate it. I must admit that I was surprised – pleasantly. First, with the fact that is one of the world’s oldest holistic “whole-body” healing systems (over 5000 years old!). Second, the amount of recipes and preparations for preserving youth and beauty. According to Ayurveda, beauty comes from within, and every living being is a universe of it’s own, like a leaf on a huge tree. In order to know what is best for your skin, you must first determine your skin type by doshas. The Ayurvedic skin type is divided into vata, pitta, kapha or combination skin type. It sounds complicated, but believe me it is not. The ‘Ayusante’ website has a short test, with which you can very easily determine what skin type you are according to Ayurveda (mine is kapha-pitta).

Today I will be reviewing two products from the Soul Tree brand. Specifically, under eye gel and tonic. Soul Tree is the only Indian brand to offer certified-natural personal care and beauty products. All of their products use authentic Ayurvedic recipes and natural and organic ingredients.

Let’s start with the under eye gel first! The eye area is one of the first places to show signs of aging. Although I still have no wrinkles, I stick to the one ‘better safe than sorry’. Therefore, eye creams are the best ally. I have to emphasize that I have very sensitive eyes, so finding the right cream seemed like a climb to Mount Everest. The creams would cause burning and tearing of the eyes, and then i would simply give up. What attracted me to this product is the fact that it is a gel, not a cream. Which I didn’t get a chance to try before. According to Soul Tree, this gel moisturizes the skin, reduces dark circles and fine lines. Green Tea leaves contain antioxidants that protect skin from damaging toxins and improve blood circulation to reduce the puffiness under eyes. Pomegranate, Caffeine, Almond Oil and organic Honey minimise the appearance of wrinkles and brighten skin tone.

After two weeks of use, I totally fell in love with this gel! Just one drop of product is enough to apply to the whole area, it is easy to smear and best of all, it does not cause burning. Yaay! It has a very mild scent, and it reminds me a bit of aloe vera gel, not only in its texture but also in its wonderful cooling sensation. As for reducing dark circles, I think it’s still too early to tell, but I promise, after a month or two, I’ll let you know the results on Instagram. Best of all, it is 100% vegetarian, not tested on animals, and do not contain Parabens, Silicones, Lead, Phtalates, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Fragrance… Price $20, for 40ml.

Althoughmany women consider tonic a completely irrelevant and unnecessary cosmeticproduct, its purpose is very important. Not only it removes impurities from theskin, but it also reduces pores, moisturizes the skin and improves its overallappearance. I think these are really good reasons to make it a part of yourdaily beauty routine, right?

Soul Tree tonic as well as under eye gel doesn’t contain parabens, alcohol and harmful ingredients. It is enriched with the hydrating and soothing effect of aloe vera, witch hazel and rose water. The toner smells really nice, kind of gentle and not too intense. It leaves a feeling of dampness on the face when you use it, but it absorbs quickly and makes skin soft and clear. Before applying the tonic, it is necessary to clean and dry the face and then apply it to the face. I would spray it a couple of times on the pad and then pat it gently on my face and neck. However, you can also spray it directly on your skin, just make sure you are far enough from your face. Product contains 75ml, price $14.

I do not have the best skin and I always notice the lovely complexions of Indian women. Seeing that this has all natural products is better then the packaging for me; I love seeing how people blend good ingredients to good effect instead of chemicals.

These products sounds great! I, too, have sensitive eyes and have struggled with finding products that don’t irritate them. I’ll have to give this a try
